The Hannover Medical School, the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endocrinology is currently offering a position for a PHD Student for a research project funded by the Deutsche Krebshilfe.
Genetically engineered mouse models (GEMMs) are powerful tools for the functional annotation of the cancer genome. However, in order to introduce genetic alterations into these models, multiallelic mice need to be generated by traditional breeding, a process that is both time-consuming and expensive. We have established novel and highly flexible mouse models of pancreatic cancer that overcome this limitation and facilitate a more rapid evaluation of defined genetic alterations in pancreatic cancer development using regulatable RNA interference or CRISPR/Cas9 technology (e.g. Saborowski et al., Genes Dev 2014) in live mice. We plan to to identify and functionally characterize putative cancer genes for their role in pancreatic cancer development, maintenance and the tumor microenvironment.
The successful candidate is expected to hold a master’s degree/diploma in molecular biology, biochemistry, biology or a related field, is highly motivated and willing to work in a competitive research field as a member of an international and multidisciplinary team. The Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endocrinology (Director: Prof. Dr. med. Michael P. Manns) offers a unique research environment in the field of gastrointestinal diseases, cancer biology, infection biology and tumor immunology, excellent state-of-the-art equipment, a stimulating scientific community and intensive training of scientific and personal skills.
