PhD position - Cardiac Optoacoustic Imaging

The Multi-Scale Functional and Molecular Imaging Group seeks a highly motivated PhD student for leading a research project on development of groundbreaking optoacoustic imaging technology for studying cardiovascular function and biology. The position is associated with the International Graduate School for Science and Engineering (IGSSE) that provides extensive opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations and research exchange activities.

PhD position - Cardiac Optoacoustic Imaging

Job Description
Depending on your educational background and willingness to learn new areas, your research may involve:
  • Development of novel state-of-the-art optoacoustic imaging systems, involving experimental setup development, novel optical and ultrasound design
  • Experimental work involving imaging of small animal models of cardiac disease
  • Inverse theory, numerical computation developments, image reconstruction algorithms to support tomography and quantitative data analysis
Your Qualifications
One or more from the following:
  • Background in Medical (bio) Physics, Bioengineering or other engineering disciplines
  • Knowledge and practical experience with bioimaging methods, e.g. ultrasound, microscopy, optical tomography or other
  • Understanding sound and/or light propagation in tissues and ability to build and analyze mathematical models
  • Analytical and programming skills and experience with Matlab, Labview, FEM etc.
  • Good command of English
