The Cardiovascular Physiology Institute of the Goethe-University (Medicine Faculty) headed by Prof. Ralf Brandes and Prof. Katrin Schröder is seeking for a

PhD candidate (TV-GU, E13 65%)
(Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Medicine)

for a project focusing on Long noncoding RNA and CRISPR/Cas9.

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are a broad and unknown class of noncoding RNAs, which are broadly defined as transcribed, but not translated RNAs larger than 200 nucleotides in length. We try to understand the role of lncRNAs in the vascular context by analyzing their physiological and molecular properties.

Aim of the PhD thesis is the analysis of human lncRNAs regarding their molecular and physiological functions in endothelial cells. Therefore, typical molecular and physiological methods will be learnt and used, e.g. Human cell culture, Western Analysis, Cloning, RNAi, CRISPR/Cas9 and spheroid assay, tube formation and Boyden-chamber assays. Additionally, the generation of high throughput datasets by Microarrays, RNASeq, ChIPSeq and DNaseSeq will be generated and analyzed.

The Vascular Research Centre offers a well-equipped working environment where talented, ambitious, self-motivated students will find an ideal environment to develop and pursue their personal scientific ideas. The PhD student will become a member of the graduate schools of Frankfurt University.

Candidates should hold a master degree in biology, bioinformatics or a related field with experience in molecular biology techniques. Applicants coming from abroad are also encouraged to apply. While knowledge of the German language is not mandatory, excellent written and spoken English skills are required.
