PhD position in chromatin-based control of cell fates

Diese Stellenanzeige ist abgelaufen. Finden Sie hier zahlreiche ähnliche Jobs.

We seek an enthusiastic student to join an internationally competitive research program, aimed at understanding the mechanisms that underlie the establishment, maintenance and regulation of transcriptionally silent chromatin domains in mammals (i.e. Rowbotham at al. Mol Cell. 2011 doi: 10.1016/j.molcel.2011.02.036).

One important class of regulators of the dynamic nature of chromatin are ATP-dependent chromatin remodelers. Genetic mutations of chromatin remodelers have been implicated in cancer initiation or progression and frequently lead to impairment of embryonic development and pluripotency but little is known about the mechanistic basis underlying their requirement.

Using pluripotent embryonic stem cells and their differentiated derivatives as model systems, the successful candidate will determine how chromatin remodeling contributes to genome function. We are particularly interested in the impact of remodeling enzymes on the spatial organization of the genome in the nucleus. This provides an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated, curiosity driven candidate to participate in an exciting project, combining modern cell and molecular biology methods such as CRISPR and genome wide approaches including bioinformatics and statistics.

Applicants must have a Master Degree or Diploma in Biochemistry, Cell biology, Molecular Biology (or similar subjects) and a research background - previous lab experience is essential. Background/Interest in chromatin research is welcomed.

To apply to this PhD position, please email the following to Dr Mermoud at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Tumor Research in Marburg, Germany:

- motivation letter explaining why you want to work on chromatin dynamics
- your CV, details about your studies and previous work
- at least two letters of recommendation
