The young investigator group “Microbial Ecology”, Institute of Animal Science is offering one position for three years for:
PhD position in the field of microbial ecology

The project aims to characterise the phylogenetic and functional diversity of the microbiota in the digestive tract of aged mice and is part of the DFG SPP 1656: Intestinal microbiota - a microbial ecosystem at the edge between immune homeostasis and inflammation. The analyses of the microbiota will be based on metagenomics and metatranscriptomics using Next Generation Sequencing. The overall aim is to understand the interaction of intestinal microbiota and intestine during aging with a particular focus on the impact of diet and energy bioavailability as factors contributing to aging-associated alterations of intestinal microbiota and intestinal barrier function in humans and mice.

We seek a highly motivated creative person with interests in bioinformatics and microbiology. Candidates should have a Diploma or MSc certification in the area of microbiology, bioinformatics or agricultural biology/science.

The place of work is at the University of Hohenheim, Stuttgart, Germany. Salary will be according to the appropriate civil service level EG 13 TV-L, 0.5. Funding is available for 36 months. Women are explicitly encouraged to apply for increase their share in science and research. Physically handicapped persons will be favoured if they are equally qualified.
