PhD position in the field of neuroscience

A PhD position (TV-L E13/65%) in the field of neuroscience
is available starting in November 2016 in the BONFOR supported junior group of Dr. Laura Stappert
at the Institute of Reconstructive Neurobiology.
We are looking for a motivated PhD student who is passionate about neural stem cell research and enthusiastic to elucidate molecular mechanisms of neural development. Specifically, the project focuses on the role of nuclear receptors and microRNAs in neural stem cell maintenance and dopaminergic differentiation. The successful applicant will work with a variety of human cell culture systems (e.g. pluripotent stem cells, neural stem cells and brain organoids) as well as with suitable mouse models to identify novel regulators of neural fate specification using a combination of molecular genetics, bioinformatics, molecular biochemistry, flow cytometry and microscopy.
We offer the opportunity to work in an innovative field of science within a stimulating and supportive environment and provide training in latest cell culture techniques, genetic modification methods and neural differentiation protocols. In addition, our project is part of a EU-wide research consortium and will constitute an important part in established collaborations with outstanding specialists in the field. There is also the possibility to participate in the Bonn International Graduate School of Neuroscience BIGS
We are seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented graduate, capable to work independently with a strong interest in neurobiology, cell biology and gene regulatory networks. Experience with cell culture techniques, microscopy, flow cytometry, molecular genetics or bioinformatics is advantageous. Candidates should hold a diploma or a master’s degree in biology, molecular biomedicine or a related subject.
