The Zoology/Developmental Biology Division at the University of Osnabrück invites applications for
Scientific Assistant
in the field of “Molecular biology of the ECM”
(Salary Scale according to E13 TV-L 65 %)
starting at the nearest possible date until 31.12.2015.
This project is part of our recently evaluated and extended special research group SFB 944
Project outline
Our lab is interested in analyzing the role of the extracellular matrix in heart cell differentiation. Using the Drosophila heart as a model, you will participate in a project that investigates the function of collagens in establishing an elastic heart tube. Questions to be answered include how ECM proteins are secreted and delivered to the heart and how ECM proteins become incorporated into the extracellular matrix of cardiomyoblasts (Drechsler et al 2013, PLOS Genetics 9 (7) e1003616). We use various microscopic techniques, including cLSM, live cell imaging, TEM, molecular biology (cloning, Northern etc.), biochemistry (protein purification and analysis) and cell culture systems (H5, S2).
Further information can be obtained from Prof. A. Paululat, phone: +49 (0) 541 969 2861,

Host Institute
The successful candidates will join an international team of researchers with expertise in Drosophila genetics, molecular biology, live cell imaging, electron microscopy and protein chemistry lipid and protein chemistry. UOS is a young university located in the historical town of Osnabrück, the only German city situated in a national park (the “UNESCO Geo park TERRA.vita”). The Division, headed by Prof. A. Paululat, is embedded in the strongly interdisciplinary Collaborative Research Centre “SFB944: Physiology and Dynamics of Cellular Microcompartments”, which comprises 14 research groups from the Universities of Osnabrück and Münster whose common focus is thematically and methodologically linked to both projects. The Division and Research Centre offer an outstanding scientific environment as well as direct access to state-of-the-art facilities in chemical biology, biomolecular mass spectrometry and super-resolution microscopy.
  • We are looking for an ambitious and interactive individual with a master degree in cell biology, genetics, developmental biology, molecular cell biology or biochemistry.
  • A solid background in assay development and expertise in genetics and microscopic imaging technologies would be advantageous.
  • Perseverance and the aspiration to work in a strongly interdisciplinary research environment are essential.
As a certified family-friendly institution, Osnabrück University is committed to furthering the compatibility between work/ studies and family life.

As an employer, Osnabrück University is particularly concerned with creating equality opportunities for women and men. Women with relevant qualifications are therefore strongly encouraged to apply for the position.
