Empa is the interdisciplinary research and services institution for material sciences and technology development of the ETH Domain.

The Laboratory for Materials-Biology Interactions develops and optimizes advanced in vitro assays and uses those for assessing the underlying molecular mechanism in order to support a safe and sustainable use of nanomaterials. We are looking for a highly motivated person capable of leading an scientific group, independent and efficient handling of scientific and industrial related projects in an interdisciplinary environment.
Scientific Group Leader for Bio-inspired Nanomaterials

Your tasks
  • you lead with competent scientific and entrepreneurial guidance a team of scientists, PostDocs, PhDs and technicians and you actively collaborate with other Empa units, partner institutions and industrial partners
  • create, functionalize or modify nanomaterials for bio-relevant applications
  • your team achieves international recognition in nanomaterials-bio interactions, applies them to questions of high relevance and transfers knowledge to industrial partners
  • you successfully present your results in scientific journals and at international conferences

Your profile
  • experience in leading a scientific group
  • PhD degree in chemistry, biochemistry or nanoscience
  • strong background in functionalization / modification of nanomateirals and
  • analytical chemistry
  • successful project acquisition (SNF, CTI or similar)
  • experienced in project management / writing scientific publications
  • good knowledge of English and German is requisite (written and oral)

We offer a challenging executive position at a research institution with excellent infrastructure and broad interdisciplinary surrounding. Working place is St. Gallen.
