International Max Planck Research School for Exploration of Ecological Interactions with Molecular and Chemical Techniques.

We invite applications for a full-time position as scientific coordinator of the International Max Planck Research School, located in Jena, Germany. The school is an international graduate program to train students in the use of molecular and chemical techniques to experimentally explore ecological interactions under natural conditions. The main focus is on the interactions between plants, animals, microbes and their environment, as well as the behavioral consequences of these interactions. Participants are provided with top-notch research conditions in an interdisciplinary environment within a structured, three-year training program including practical courses, lectures, seminars, and participation in internal and international conferences. The courses of the IMPRS are held in English. The School is a joint venture of the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology, Friedrich Schiller University Jena, the Leibniz Institute for Natural Products Research and Infection Biology and the Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Research. Job Description

The coordinator’s responsibilities include:
  • Planning and organization of the Ph.D. training program, including teaching, annual meetings and excursions
  • Coordination of the recruitment of new students, including announcements, evaluation and selection
  • Providing administrative support to students
  • Public presentation of the school in speech, press and websites
  • Helping to prepare 3rd party applications to augment funding
Requirements

We seek a candidate with a Ph.D. or equivalent in the fields of chemistry or biology and experience in scientific education, research and management, preferably at the international level. Familiarity with the German academic system, and an excellent speaking and written knowledge of English and German are essential. The candidate should be an enthusiastic and self-motivated person with outstanding organizational skills, communication abilities, proficiency in problem-solving and an interest in working in an international environment.
The salary will be according to the TVöD (level 13), and the position is limited to 2 years with extension possible to the end of the funding period (6 years) depending upon performance.
