The International Graduate Program

"Receptor Dynamics: Emerging Paradigms for Novel Drugs"

invites applications for a
 
funded PhD position
 
immediately available at the University of Würzburg, Germany, in the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy. The applicant should hold a MSc or diploma degree in Chemistry and show some experience in the application of computational methods for the investigation of chemical and biochemical problems.
 
The PhD project is dedicated to the investigation of receptor activation, ligand efficacy and ligand residence time at adenosine receptors by molecular dynamics simulations in combination with FRET-microscopy techniques. The project is supervised by Prof. Christoph Sotriffer at the Institute of Pharmacy and Food Chemistry and Prof. Carsten Hoffmann at the Rudolf Virchow Center, Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology. It offers the possibility to learn state-of-the-art simulation methods and fluorescence microscopy techniques and apply them to research topics of biomedical and pharmaceutical relevance.
 
The PhD position is part of the International Graduate Program "Receptor Dynamics: Emerging Paradigms for Novel Drugs", a joint initiative of the Universities of Würzburg, Bayreuth, Erlangen-Nürnberg, and Regensburg funded by the Elite Network of Bavaria, Germany. The overall scientific focus is on dynamic features of G- protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), the prime target for drug development and therapy, from the molecular level to microscopic and macroscopic functions. The Graduate Program offers interdisciplinary training covering medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, structural biology, biophysics and biochemistry, as well as physiology. In addition, a wide range of workshops and courses for further scientifc and professional qualification is offered.
 
Applicants should have
  • an excellent MSc degree or diploma in Chemistry
  • completed a bachelor, master or diploma thesis in the area of theoretical chemistry, computational chemistry, molecular modeling or computer-aided drug design
  • very good English language skills
  • passion for research and scientifc exchange in an interdisciplinary network.
