The Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion in Mülheim an der Ruhr has been reestablished in 2012 and the field of research has been aligned with the conversion of energy. Our scientists are engaged in basic processes that are essential within the storage and conversion of energy.
The Max Planck Fellow research group “Heterogeneous Redox Catalysis” at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion is presently looking for candidates (f/m) for a
Ph.D. position
in three-phase redox catalysis.
 
Job Description: You will work with state-of-the-art innovative catalyst synthesis and characterization equipment as well as with numerous high-pressure reaction setups including continuously operated micro-structured reactors. The Ph.D. research topic will be mainly focused on oxidation catalysis, that is, the selective oxidation of short-chain alcohols and the challenging C-H bond activation of hydrocarbons in the liquid phase using sustainable oxidants.

Qualifications: You should have a top-level Master degree in Chemistry or Chemical Reaction Engineering. You are a talented, highly motivated and curiosity-driven student with a strong drive towards innovation and excellence in heterogeneous catalysis. Experiences in catalyst synthesis and characterization, kinetic studies at high pressure and autoclave handling are highly appreciated including hands-on training in using GC, GC-MS, and HPLC equipment. We expect you to have a very good command of English and that you are a team player. Other requirements are excellent analytical, communicative and writing skills.
