At TU Dresden, Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Institute of Principles of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, the Chair of Circuit Design and Network Theory (CCN) offers a position starting from 01.10.2015 as a
Research Fellow
(Subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)
fixed term until 30.06.2019 at maximum. The period of employment is governed by § 2 Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification (e.g. PhD/ habilitation thesis).
The Chair of Circuit Design and Network Theory collaborates closely with many leading companies and research institutes in the field of electronic circuit design. We devote yourself to the design and modelling of integrated circuits in CMOS, BiCMOS and III/IV technologies as well as in cutting edge ‘Beyond Moore‘ Nano technologies, e. g. based on carbon tubes, silicon nano wires or organic as well as polymer components. Our main focus is in the area of analogue and mixed-signal circuit design. Further working fields include the design of FPGAs, PCBs and hybrid structures, digital signal processing systems and algorithms for complete information systems. Applications for our developments are high frequency systems, wireless communication systems from low frequency up to 220 GHz, optical data communication systems up to 80 Gbit/s, highly accurate positioning systems, energy adaptive systems with smart and dynamic control as well as wake-up technologies and energy harvesting systems.
Tasks: During the course of the project very fast and highly efficient data converters (Digital-to-Analog and Analog-to-Digital) will be designed and realised in hardware. Suitable topologies must be selected and adapted to currently used semiconductor technologies that are available for chip design. The selection of circuit topologies must consider the compromise between data rate and resolution. The possibility of implementing data converters in highly scaled CMOS technologies and in advanced SiGe processes must be investigated. For simulation and layout the CAD software Cadence is used. For modelling the behaviour of passive structures at high frequencies a 3D electromagnetic field simulator is used.
The position offers an excellent platform for interdisciplinary collaboration and the possibility to continue a personal and scientific development. Furthermore, Postdocs have the chance to manage renowned research projects.
Requirements: excellent to good university degree (master´s, Dipl.-Ing.) with PhD degree if possible in electrical engineering, communications, information engineering or computer science; knowledge in circuit design; independent and flexible working attitude; innovative and analytical thinking; strong commitment; communicative team-player; good English; and scientific curiosity. Knowledge in the following areas is advantageous: integrated analogue, digital and mixed-signal circuit design, high frequency engineering, communications, positioning systems as well as measurement techniques. German language skills are helpful.
Applications from women are particularly welcome. The same applies to people with disabilities.
Interested candidates are kindly requested to submit concise application material, including CV and copy of transcripts, until 17.08.2015 (stamped arrival date of the university central mail service applies) preferably per e-mail in one PDF-file to (Please note: We are currently not able to receive electronically signed and encrypted data.) or to TU Dresden, Fakultät Elektrotechnik und Informationstechnik, Institut für Grundlagen der Elektrotechnik und Elektronik, Professur für Schaltungstechnik und Netzwerktheorie, Herrn Prof. Frank Ellinger, 01062 Dresden. Please submit copies only, as your application will not be returned to you. Expenses incurred in attending interviews cannot be reimbursed.
