The PhD Position deals with the pathophysiology of multiple sclerosis and development and characterization of new therapeutic strategies. There will be a close interaction with projects of the Sonderforschungsbereich „Multiple Sclerosis“ (CRC TR 128).
The project aims to unravel the mechanisms of immune-modulation of modern  immune-therapeutic drugs for treatment of Multiple Sclerosis. This is a highly dynamic translational project involving a range of immunological approaches.
The successful candidate will be a motivated researcher with a keen interest in (neuro)immunology, strong organizational and teamwork abilities, and high interest and motivation to work in a team.

  • Master of science in any scientific field of study with an immunological background
  • Keen interest in experimental (neuro) immunological approaches

The ideal candidate would additionally be characterized by:
  • Expertise in immunological assays and in flow cytometry
  • Sharing our passion to push the limits in understanding CNS autoimmunity

Our group:
Our group has a long-standing interest in understanding the mechanisms underlying the pathophysiology of Multiple Sclerosis, in identifying and characterizing new potential targets for treatment of CNS autoimmunity, and in understanding the complex mechanisms of action of new immune modulatory treatments. Our projects encompass both, basic science projects and projects with a clear translational aspect. Due to our strong focus in neuroimmunology, we offer very modern flow cytometry facilities as well as several animal models of multiple sclerosis. Finally, our translational research is strongly supported by a state-of-the-art immune cell biobank encompassing a large and well characterized sample collection of MS specimen.

We have a lively interaction with several highly renowned groups in the field of immunology and neuroimmunology, reflected by our strong collaborations within the Sonderforschungsbereich „breaking barriers“ the Transregio SFB „Multiple Sclerosis“ and Participation in the Excellence Initiative Cells in Motion.

  • Working in a highly motivated interdisciplinary team contributing to our understanding of CNS autoimmunity with the particular skills that you already have and will further develop
  • Gaining broad insight into a wide range of immunological approaches and learning a number of key (neuro-) immunological techniques.
