The candidate is expected to represent the field of RNA biology during infection through both research and teaching. An individual research group will be established as part of the Institute (www.i-lung.de).
The established research group will be associated with the new LOEWE research cluster “Medical RNomics” (Marburg, Giessen, Bad Nauheim and Frankfurt) and is expected to study the roles of all classes of non-coding RNAs (miRNA, lncRNA, sRNA) during bacterial infection of human macrophages. Innovative research concepts including RNA deep sequencing, bioinformatics, primary cell culture, human tissue models and the investigation of patient material will be implemented. Furthermore, close cooperation with existing clinical and experimental groups from the LOEWE Medical RNomics cluster is intended. Established collaborations with the e:bio/e:Med-systems biology consortia and the SFB/TR84 (Innate Immunity of the Lung) are expected to be fostered.
The major responsibilities of the successful candidate are the representation of RNA-biology in the department (research and teaching), and collaboration within the department and the LOEWE cluster. The applicant is expected to participate in the development of a planned collaborative research center (DFG SFB) application and is encouraged to secure additional external funding.
Candidates should hold an excellent university degree (Master/Diploma or equivalent) in life sciences or human medicine and a distinguished doctoral degree. Applicants are expected to have profound theoretical and practical experience in planning, conducting and publication of research studies in the area of human immunology, infection biology and RNA molecular biology. Ideally, the successful candidate has prior experience in bioinformatics, cell sorting and co-culture models of human cells.
