Stellenausschreibung

The University of Regensburg with its over 20,000 students is an innovative and interdisciplinary working university which provides a broad variety of research projects and disciplines for German and foreign students. The Department of Molecular and Cellular Anatomy at the University of Regensburg is offering a position as a

PhD

beginning on April 1, 2016. The half time position (20,05 hours per week) is initially limited to 3 years (with possible extension). The position is paid according to the German pay scale E 13 TV-L.

Job specification:
  • In the project the PhD student is going to work on, we are focussing on the role of the tumour-suppressors KIBRA, Pals1 and PAR-6 in the establishment and maintenance of cell polarity and proliferation control in Drosophila and mammalian cells.
  • KIBRA, Pals1 and PAR-6 are key regulators of the highly conserved Hippo-pathway, which regulates cell proliferation and organ growth. On the other hand, all three proteins are integrated in a complex network determining the apical plasmamembrane domain.
  • The aim of this project is to further explore the role of these tumor suppressors in cell proliferation and cell polarity control by validating potential interaction partners and observed phosphorylation sites. We further aim to analyze cancer cell lines and biopsies for pathomechanisms involving KIBRA, Pals1 and PAR-6.
  • As model system we are using Drosophila polarized tissues as well as mammalian cell culture (non transformed cells and tumor-derived cell lines), syngeneic mouse models and tissue biopsies.
  • The project involves several techniques in molecular biology (e.g. cloning, mutagenesis, recombineering), biochemistry (Co-immunoprecipitation, Western Blotting, Kinase Assays, protein pulldowns, etc.), cell biology (mammalian and Drosophila cell culture, Immunohistochemistry, Confocal laser microscopy including life imaging) and genetics (Drosophila and mice).

Qualifications:
  • Master/Diplom or equivalent in Biology/Molecular Biology/Biochemistry
  • Experiences with mammalian cell culture   (and or mouse model) or Drosophila genetics are preferred.
  • Team spirit and high motivation
