PhD position

beginning on June 15, 2015. The half time position is initially limited to 3 years (with possible extension). The position is paid according to the German pay scale 13 TV-L.
We are a young and dynamic team and looking forward to a new member joining our group.
Job specification:
  • In the project the PhD student is going to work on, we are focussing on the role of the tumour-suppressor KIBRA in the establishment and maintenance of cell polarity and proliferation control in Drosophila and mammalian cells.
  • KIBRA is a key regulator of the highly conserved Hippo-pathway, which regulates cell proliferation and organ growth. On the other hand, KIBRA is integrated in a complex network determining the apical plasmamembrane domain.
  • The aim of this project is to further explore the role of KIBRA in cell proliferation and cell polarity control by validating some potential interaction partners and observed phosphorylation sites.
  • As it is a cooperation project with the University of Münster, a student exchange for a defined period within the PhD work would be possible but not obligatory.
  • As model system we are using Drosophila polarized tissues, namely ectodermal epithelial cells of the epidermis, the follicle cell epithelium, neural stem cells (Neuroblasts) and nephrocytes (the Drosophila filtration units) as well as mammalian cell culture (e.g. HeLa, U2OS, MDCK, 3D-cyst formation and cell migration models).
  • The project involves several techniques in molecular biology (e.g. cloning, mutagenesis, recombineering), biochemistry (Co-immunoprecipitation, Western Blotting, Kinase Assays, protein pulldowns, etc.), cell biology (mammalian and Drosophila cell culture, Immunostainings, Confocal laser microscopy including life imaging) and genetics (Drosophila).
  • Candidates should have obtained their Master/Diplom in Biology/Molecular Biology/Biochemistry
  • We are looking for a highly motivated PhD-student, experiences with mammalian cell culture   (and or mouse model) or Drosophila genetics are preferred.
  • Team spirit and high motivation
