The Laboratory of CLL Pathogenesis (Head: Prof. Dr. Michael Hallek) of the Department I of Internal Medicine at the University Hospital of Cologne is seeking applications for a part-time (65%)
 
PhD Student (f/m)
(Diplom/Master of Biology)
 
to be employed under a limited-time for three years, whereby this contract can be renewed.
 
Our laboratory is located in the Cologne Excellence Cluster on Cellular Stress Responses in Aging-Associated Diseases (CECAD), and embedded in an excellent research environment that offers many interactions with researchers and clinicians of the University of Cologne, the Max-Planck-Institutes and the Center for Integrated Oncology Köln-Bonn. Our research group has a track record of works aiming at understanding the pathogenesis of chronic lymphocytic leukemia. We are identifying novel genes that participate in the development of this disease, the long-term goal is to develop novel strategies for the treatment of leukemia. The available project aims to investigate the molecular interactions between the microenvironment and leukemic cells, as well as the signaling pathways that are induced by these interactions, with focus on protein kinases. Ph.D. students benefit from internal graduate schools who offer structured training programs.
 
Qualifications:
  • Applicants should hold a degree (Master/Diploma or equivalent) in life sciences (biology, biotechnology, biochemistry or genetics) with a solid background in molecular and cell biology
  • Practical experience in modern protein chemistry and molecular biology techniques is required
  • Interest in work with animal models expected, experience with mouse is an advantage but not a requirement
  • Good communication skills, teamwork and fluency in English (spoken/written)
 
Successful candidates should be highly motivated, enthusiastic and demonstrate a strong research interest in cancer biology. Liability, independence and good analytic skills are desired.
 
Your salary will be based on TV-L.
