Ph. D. Student Position (m/f)
Image analysis and software development for light sheet and superresolution microscopy
(Code Number 09-16)

The aim of the project is to study the causes of chromosome segregation errors in mammalian egg cells. Such errors are a leading cause of miscarriages, infertility and genetic disorders such as Down syndrome. The successful applicant will develop software for automated 4D image acquisition of chromosome segregation on high end microscopes and subsequent image analysis. The candidate will work closely with experimentalists using a wide range of state-of-the-art microscopy techniques, including superresolution and light sheet microscopy, to study how chromosome segregation errors arise. To learn about recent work from the lab please visit www.mpibpc.mpg.de/mschuh.

Ph. D. candidates should be team-oriented and hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in computer science, physics or a related field. The Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry provides an outstanding environment for cutting-edge and interdisciplinary research at the interface between computer science, physics and biology.

We offer a 3-year contract with the possibility of an extension. The successful applicant will receive a salary according to the funding guidelines for young researchers of the Max Planck Society.
