The DFG Research Training Group GRK 1763 "Quantitative Logics and Automata" at TU Dresden offers
 
8 Doctoral Scholarships
 
for applicants interested in performing high-quality research on the connection between quantitative logics and automata as well as their applications in verification, knowledge representation, natural language processing, and semi-structured data (XML). This research programme is a joint activity of TU Dresden (Institute of Theoretical Computer Science and Institute of Algebra) and the Universität Leipzig (Department of Computer Science) with participating investigators Baader, Baier, Bodirsky, Brewka, Droste, Ganter, Quaas, Rudolph, Turhan, and Vogler.
Financed by the German Research Foundation (DFG), the scholarship (including a supplement) amounts to € 1460/month (tax exempt) for 2,5 years with a possible extension to overall 3 years. In addition to the scholarship, research and travel funds will be provided. PhD students with children will get additional funds and the possibility of extending the stipend according to the regulations of the DFG.
The scholarships are expected to start from October 1, 2015.
Applicants should have an excellent academic record, and hold a MSc (or an equivalent degree) in computer science or related disciplines (such as mathematics). Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Applicants with a good knowledge of theoretical computer science or one of the application areas mentioned above are preferred. The participating universities are committed to increase the proportion of women in research.
