Material Scientist, Polymer Scientist, Process Engineer as Project Leader - Gecomer® Technology (m/f)

PROJECT LEADER GECOMER® TECHNOLOGY


The INM – Leibniz Institute for New Materials in Saarbrücken, Germany, is an internationally leading center for materials research. We focus on surface and interface phenomena and their exploitation in the development of innovative materials and structures. INM is a scientific partner to national and international research institutions and a provider of research and development for companies throughout the world. INM has about 200 employees and is an institute of the Leibniz Association.

Our new Gecomer® technology is derived from natural adhesive structures and promises growing applications in many industrial sectors. For a new strategic research and development project in this area we seek to appoint a

POLYMER SCIENTIST/MATERIALS SCIENTIST/ or PROCESS ENGINEER as PROJECT LEADER.

The successful candidate will build and lead a new project group devoted specifically to the transfer of the “gecko” principle into targeted technological applications. The project is financed by the Leibniz Association for three years. It will be conducted in close interdisciplinary collaboration between the Functional Microstructures Group, where the science base is being developed, and the Innovation Center at INM, where numerous development projects are being performed for industrial customers.

We envision a scientist/engineer with specialization in one of the following areas: polymer science and technology, materials technology, process or mechanical engineering. Experience in surface materials, coating processes and/or micropatterning techniques is required; prior knowledge in roll-to-roll processing and reliability engineering would be desirable. The position offers ample opportunity for demonstrating leadership, ability to collaborate scientifically across disciplines and to interact with selected industries.

Top level techniques include state-of-the-art optical and electron microscopy methods, modern techniques of synthesis, processing and micro and nano patterning, as well as mechanical and functional characterization of new materials. The Innovation Center offers pilot-scale roll-to-roll coating techniques under clean-room conditions, up-scaling strategies for successful small-scale innovations and robotic demonstrators. Close links with adjacent Saarland University, especially with the departments of materials science and engineering, chemistry and medical school, are strongly encouraged. This includes opportunities for teaching on the undergraduate and graduate level. Financial compensation will be competitive and depends on previous experience.
