The Chair of Materials Science, Otto Schott Institute of Materials Research, Friedrich Schiller University Jena, offers a
 
doctoral student (PhD) position materials science/ physics

The PhD project is focused on the creation, investigation and understanding of a new class of antimicrobial bionanomaterials for example for use in biomedicine or mobility applications. The project is part of a German Science Foundation (DFG) project that is carried out in cooperation with the Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology, - Hans Knöll Institute-.

Novel antimicrobial materials will be created, characterized, implemented, optimized and their structure-property relationships will be developed. Together with a second PhD student in microbiology, we aim to un-derstand the mechanisms of material-microbe interaction on our novel bionanomaterials.

Additional benefit of the PhD study is membership in the renowned excellence graduate Jena School of Mi-crobial Communication (JSMC) which offers outstanding opportunities for career development and methods training. The candidate will receive in-depth training in materials science, bionanomaterials and synthesis of nanomaterials of both, basics science and industrial applications. The knowledge and skills developed will provide the candidate with a solid foundation for his/her future academic or industrial career in the field of materials science and bionanomaterials.
Creative and highly motivated applicants (m/f) are encouraged to apply. A master degree (First or Upper Sec-ond) or equivalent in one of the following fields is required: materials science, physics, chemistry, chemical engineering. A background in nanotechnology or biomaterials would be an advantage. Excellent written and oral commutation skills in English are essential.

The part-time position, (75%) is funded for three years and will be paid in accordance to the German Public Services Regulations TV-L up to E 13.
