As the sole technology and natural sciences University in the state of Rheinland-Pfalz, the TU Kaiserslautern has acquired an impressive reputation since its foundation in 1970. It has been given top rankings in a number of categories and continues to profit from the direct campus presence of renowned research institutions including the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), the Fraunhofer Institutes for Experimental Software Engineering (IESE) and Industrial Mathematics (ITWM) and the Max-Planck Institute for Software Systems.

In the Faculty of Mechanical and Process Engineering there are currently open a few of research assistant positions in the area of dynamical systems and control.

Research Assistant in Complex Dynamical Systems (f/m) 
(PhD Position)

The central goal of research consists in developing theoretical bases for holistic approaches to design and analysis of dynamical systems in heterogenous domains. Instances of research projects include topics in:
  • hybrid and switched dynamical systems
  • event-triggered and discrete-event systems
  • control of partial differential equations, and
  • stochastic control.

Possible applications are to be defined but are not limited to:
  • collaborative robotics
  • network dynamics and cyber-physical systems
  • scheduling and coding
  • machine learning in distributed systems
  • systemy biology and chemical engineering, and
  • power systems and smart grids.

Applicants should have successfully completed university studies in the field of control, mathematics, computer science, physics, or electrical engineering. They have proven excellent mathematical and abstract reasoning skills.

Credits will be given to the experience in specific mathematical areas, e.g. optimization, stochastics, partial differential equations and dynamical systems. 

The employment contract is based on contracts for the civil service (TVöD-Bund) and either will initially be time limited.
