Bioanalytical Laboratory Head (m/f)


The department of bioanalysis and non-clinical pharmacokinetics (BANP) is a key function
within Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK). The bioanalytical group utilises
LC-MS/MS and ligand binding analysis to accomplish the quantitative bioanalysis of
xenobiotics in biological fluids, working in compliance with international regulations. The
group has a very high competence in analytical chemistry. In-house experimental work covers
pre-clinical project development as well as early clinical development, later project support
being outsourced. Accordingly, the laboratory heads in this group work closely with
colleagues in metabolism, toxicology, non-clinical and clinical pharmacokinetics.
  • Scientific supervision of a bioanalytical laboratory (preclinical and clinical) performing
    LC-MS/MS trace analysis of active ingredients in biological matrices of multiple species,
    including method development and validation as well as study sample analysis
  • Authorship and review of bioanalytical and toxicokinetic reports prepared for submission to
    competent authorities, including independent scientific evaluation of the quality and
    relevance of the findings
  • DMPK representative (m/f) in international project teams, representing the scientific
    findings of DMPK studies, including interdisciplinary evaluation, independently producing
    expert opinions and submission documents and answering enquiries from authorities
  • Very close liaison with internal DMPK, toxicology and clinical pharmacokinetics colleagues


  • PhD (m/f) in a relevant discipline, e.g. chemistry, food chemistry or pharmacy
  • Long-term experience of LC-MS/MS trace analysis of active ingredients (small molecules) in
    biological matrices, including method development and validation within the pharmaceutical
    industry or CRO in a drug development environment
  • Sound working knowledge of GLP and the expectations and guidelines for regulated
  • Professional background in drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics would be an advantage
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deal with the pressure of quickly
    changing priorities
  • Good communication skills with interdisciplinary thinking
  • Excellent team player (m/f) with ability to build relationships and network with a wide
    variety of groups
  • Customer orientated with good awareness of customer needs
  • High degree of organization and time management
  • Initiative and creativity to develop new approaches in support of development projects
    using innovative concepts and thinking
  • Fluent in written and spoken English with willingness to learn German (working knowledge
    would be an advantage)
