Internships – (Ultrafast) Spectroscopy of Novel Solar Cell Materials

The Ultrafast Dynamics (UFD) Research Group at the KAUST Solar Center (KSC), located within the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), welcomes applications for internships of up to 6 months starting from October 2016 or later.
Current research in the UFD group focuses on: preparation, optimization, and characterization of photovoltaic devices and photoactive thin films, investigation of exciton and charge carrier dynamics by advanced ultrafast transient absorption and time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy, charge carrier transport studies, and steady-state electrical and optical characterization of thin films of organic and hybrid materials.

Students with a Bachelor or Master degree in (Physical) Chemistry, Physics, Material Sciences, or related subjects are strongly encouraged to apply. Outstanding students may be considered for KAUST’s prestigious Visiting Students Research Program (VSRP). Previous experience with (ultrafast) pulsed laser systems, optical spectroscopy, electrical measurements, data acquisition techniques and data analysis, for instance with MATLAB and Origin, or programming skills (NI LabVIEW) is ideal.

KAUST is a young, exciting, and very international University at the shores of the Red Sea with state-of-the-art laboratories and facilities. Research at the KAUST Solar Center (KSC) covers: design and synthesis of new PV materials, including device preparation and performance evaluation, novel material processing schemes such as printing, (photo)physical studies using various advanced optical and electro-optical spectroscopy and microscopy techniques, and modeling and simulation of fundamental physical processes in emerging PV materials.
