The Cluster of Excellence Engineering of Advanced Materials (eam.fau.de) is an interdisciplinary research center at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg. EAM integrates scientific and engineering competency for the development of hierarchically organized materials. For our newly established research group in the Institute for Multiscale Simulation we are searching highly motivated candidates in the following position:

PhD in Computational Soft Matter and Nanoscience

The successful candidates will contribute to a German Research Foundation funded research group focused on the modeling of self-organization processes. We currently study structure formation with colloids, nanocrystals, and actively driven granular matter.

Qualified applicants must have a Master’s degree in Physics, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or a related field and wish to pursue research involving the development of coarse-graining models for particulate systems, working with and expansion of simulation codes, and image analysis of electron microscopy data. Experience in simulation and computer programming is desirable. An interest in mathematics and physical sciences is required.

Close interaction with other members of the EAM cluster is expected. FAU offers the opportunity to work in an outstanding research university with innovative academic structures. Salary is in accordance with the German public service salary scale and the accordant social benefits.
