Ph.D. Student Position
“Microdevices for nanoparticle separation and analysis”

to conduct research into new physical methods for nanoparticle separation and analysis based on micro-/nanofluidics. The project is part of the newly established PhD program “Processing of poorly soluble drugs at small scale” of the Center for Pharmaceutical Engineering (PVZ) at the Technical University Braunschweig (www.tu‑
New methods for the controlled synthesis, detection, and characterization of nanoparticles are urgently needed in many emerging pharmaceutical applications. These particularly include drug delivery and the production, storage, and handling of poorly soluble drugs. To enable better control of nanoliter-scale processes that involve aggregation and precipitation phenomena, the aim of the thesis will be to establish a new method for the real-time detection, characterization, and separation of nanoparticles at the nanoliter-scale. Specifically, the goal is to integrate microfluidic separation devices fabricated by fs-laser micromachining and by lithographic methods at the Institute for Microtechnology of the Technical University of Braunschweig with a recently developed technology for optical and nanomechanical nanoparticle characterization at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Goettingen.
Suitable candidates will hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Microtechnology, or a related discipline; have a strong interest in experimental research; and possess prior lab experience in the physical or technical sciences.
The successful applicant will receive a full scholarship through the PhD program within the PVZ (TU Braunschweig).
