The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) is the National Metrology Institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with scientific and technical service tasks. It furthers progress and reliability in metrology for society, the economy and science.
 
Two PhD positions

are available within the department 8.1 „Biomedical Magnetic Resonance" on the basis of a 3-year fixed-term contract (65% E13 TVöD Bund). These positions will be part of the newly established Research Training Group (Graduiertenkolleg) on ‘Biophysical and Quantitative Imaging towards Clinical Diagnosis’ (BIOQIC).

Your tasks:
Project 1:
  • Development of MRI acquisition and novel, compressed sensing based reconstruction techniques for blood flow quantification at 3 Tesla and 7 Tesla.
  • Implementation and validation of the developed techniques in phantoms.
  • In-vivo applications in close collaboration with our clinical partners.

Project 2:
  • Development of novel acquisition techniques for myocardial fat imaging and quantification at 7 Tesla.
  • RF pulse design methods for fat/water excitation at ultra-high fields.
  • Implementation and validation of the developed techniques in phantoms.
  • In-vivo applications in the human heart in close collaboration with our clinical partners.


Qualifications:
  • University degree in the field of physics, electric engineering or related discipline.
  • Very good programming skills (Matlab, C/C++)
  • Experience in MRI, image processing, or image reconstruction is a plus.
  • Communication skills and ability to play within a multidisciplinary team.
