Research Fellow
 (Subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)
 
which entails 50% of the fulltime weekly hours and will be fixed-term until 31.08.2018. The period of employment is governed by § 2 Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The position is embedded in the joint simulation and experimental European Project Reservoir Computing with Real-time Data for future IT (RECORD-IT).
The scientific activities of the Chair of Materials Science and Nanotechnology (Prof. Dr. G. Cuniberti) are focused on developing nonconventional strategies for novel materials and devices with intrinsic nanoscale complexity.
Tasks: The general aim is to theoretically study the functionalization of nanowires with specific molecular species relevant for their use as sensing devices. Moreover, appropriate models for computing the current-voltage response of such complex systems need to be developed. The results will serve as input for coarse-grained simulations (Possion-Boltzmann solvers) and for data analysis of the sensor output. The successful candidate will be working in close collaboration with experimental and theoretical partners in France, Italy, Sweden, Croatia, Poland, and Israel and is also expected to build intense collaborations within our chair. A close collaboration with the Cluster of Excellence "Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden" is desirable.
Requirements: The candidate with excellent university degree, at best in physics, chemistry or materials science background, is expected to have a good expertise on density functional methods. A working knowledge of classical molecular dynamics simulations and experience in code development will be very strong pluses. We target at top-notch dedicated and proactive young scientists who plan to make their mark in science.
