Department Dermatology

University of Erlangen

One major focus of the Department of Dermatology (headed by G. Schuler) at the Erlangen / Nuremberg University is treatment of melanoma expecially by translational research. About 50 clinical doctors and scientists are engaged in the concept of vaccinating tumor patients with antigen loaded autologous dendritic cells, which are produced in a special GMP laboratory with 8 clean rooms. The institute offers excellent scientific resources in a stimulating environment, e.g. the Collaborative Research Centers SFB 643 "Strategies of Cellular Immune Intervention" and SFB 466 "Lymphoproliferation and Viral Immunodeficiency" funded by the DFG (German Science Foundation), and the Interdisciplinary Center for Clinical research (IZKF) "Genesis, Diagnostics and Therapy of Inflammation Processes".
