The Institute of Bio- and Geosciences (IBG-1:Biotechnology) of the Forschungszentrum Jülich is concerned with cutting edge research in industrial bioprocess development with biocatalysts and microorganisms. A major focus is put on the precise in vivo quantification of intracellular resources and processes by multi-omics technologies.
In a rigorous systems biology approach, the obtained data is used for building predictive mathematical models focusing on industrial engineering targets. The developed tools are applied to speed up developments in microbial strain phenotyping, microbial bioprocess development as well as synthetic biology including biotransformations.
