Johannes Gutenberg University

Institute for Microscopic Anatomy and Neurobiology

The Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz is located in the capital of Rhineland-Palatinate and was founded in 1477. With about 35.000 students it is among the ten largest in Germany. The University Medical Center is located on a close by hill on the area of an ancient roman fortress. A central research focus in Mainz is neurobiology, which is among others clustered within the FTN (Focus Program Neurobiology) and the rmn2 (Rhine-Main Neuroscience Network) that links neuroscientific research in the cities of Mainz and Frankfurt am Main. The Institute of Microscopic Anatomy and Neurobiology is intimately linked to these networks and dedicated to neuroscientific research. The Molecular Signal Transduction Lab of Prof. Schmidt actively pursuits this goal on the molecular level.
