Research Area: Functional genomics and molecular biology of symbiotic fungi

The focus of our research is the understanding of the processes underlying the beneficial effects elicited by fungal endophytes to their hosts, symbiont evolution, and mechanisms accounting for variations in host preferences and microbial lifestyles. Using recent advances in DNA sequencing technologies and bioinformatics we are currently developing genomic tools to allow the genus Sebacinales to be exploited as a full-featured model for investigating fundamental aspects of symbiosis.
