Dpt of Molecular Structural Biology

The Department of Molecular Structural Biology at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry (Munich, Germany) is looking for a talented and motivated Master or Ph.D. student to investigate the structural dynamics of the 26S proteasome. The 26S proteasome plays a fundamental role in protein degradation in all eukaryotes, and the goal of this project is to understand the structural aspects of proteasome function using electron microscopy and fluorescent correlation spectroscopy.
The Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry is a leading research center in cell and molecular biology, offering a dynamic research environment and excellent facilities. The Institute hosts a world-class cryo-electron microscopy center with multiple high-end electron microscopes. We have open-access state-of-the art core facilities providing service for mass spectrometry, crystallization and other biophysical techniques. The successful candidate will be part of an international research community in which the working language is English.
The project will be carried out in the team of Dr. Eri Sakata, in collaboration with Prof. Don Lamb (LMU Munich).
  • Bachelor or Master degree in Biology, Biophysics, Biomedicine, Chemistry or related sciences
  • Practical lab experience
  • Excellent English language skills
