Department of Experimental Hematology

MHH’s Department of Experimental Hematology was founded in 2006. We entertain strong scientific interactions with many Departments and Research Groups on our campus, as well as with other national and international collaborators.

Scientific goals
The unifying topic of our research is induced and pathologic regeneration of blood cell formation (hematopoiesis). Our scientific goals are:

  • the analysis of the mechanisms underlying differentiation of pluripotent cells to hematopoietic stem cells
  • the discovery of novel pathways that support self-renewal and competitive fitness of normal and malignant hematopoietic stem cells
  • the development of novel cell and gene therapeutics for inherited or acquired disorders of the hematopoietic system, based on molecular insights into mechanisms of transgene-host interactions

We invest equal emphasis in conceptual and technological progress as well as detailed risk assessment of novel therapeutic approaches.
