Organogenesis Team - Center for biological signalling studies (BIOSS)

Institut biologie 1

Our lab uses the lateral line of the zebrafish as a model system to uncover the
mechanisms coordinating collective cell migration, morphogenesis and
differentiation during organ formation. The mechanosensory organs of the lateral
line are similar to our auditory sensory organs and allow the fishes to sense water
vibrations. They assemble and differentiate within a migrating group of cells, the
lateral line primordium. Zebrafish embryos are transparent and are therefore ideally
suited for in vivo live imaging. We therefore combine modern imaging techniques to
genetics, molecular biology and cell biology to address the question of how cells
altogether acquire a given shape and identity during organogenesis.
