Research Profile of our group:
The differentiation of the female gametophyte from a single progenitor cell is, from a cell biological perspective, one of the most spectacular differentiation processes known in higher plants. Understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying the establishment of cell identity and cell polarity within the embryo sac, is one focus of our research team. One major focus of our group is also to identify the molecules that male (pollen) and female gametophytes and gametes use for cell-cell communication and successful double fertilization.
We are using Arabidopsis, maize, and wheat as model plant species to identify key genes involved in the processes described above.
