The neurochemical differential diagnosis of neurodegenerative disease represents one focus of our interdisciplinary group. Using a proteomic approach, we attempt to detect potential markers in cerebrospinal fluid. These markers are characterised and further investigated with regard to their differential diagnostic and pathophysiological relevance. As a model, we first concentrated on the differential diagnosis of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. We now also use these methods for the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy-body disease. These techniques and diverses transgene models are now used to obtain a basic understanding of neurodegenerative diseases.
