PhD Position in Structural Biology
A PhD position in structural biology is available immediately in the group of Hermann Schindelin at the Rudolf Virchow Center for Experimental Biomedicine of the University of Wuerzburg. The successful applicant will gather structural and functional insights into proteins involved in the anchoring and transport of inhibitory neurotransmitter (glycine and GABAA) receptors. These processes are necessary for the establishment and maintenance of inhibitory synapses and hence the proper function of neuronal networks. Through a combination of biochemical, biophysical and structural approaches we investigate the mechanisms underlying interactions between proteins involved either in the transport of glycine and GABAA receptors or in their clustering. State of the art facilities are available to carry out these studies. Highly motivated candidates with a strong background and interest in protein biochemistry, protein purification and molecular biology are encouraged to apply. Candidates should have a recent Masters degree in biochemistry, biology, chemistry or related fields. To apply, please submit your CV, a brief description of research experiences, and the names and addresses of two individuals who can provide a letter of recommendation to: Prof. Dr. Hermann Schindelin, Rudolf-Virchow-Zentrum/DFG-Forschungszentrum für Experimentelle Biomedizin der Universität Würzburg, Josef-Schneider-Straße 2 / D15, D-97080 Würzburg or as e-mail to
