Universitätsklinikum Düsseldorf

Institut für Transplantationsdiagnostik und Zelltherapeutika

The Natural Immunity Group led by Prof. Markus Uhrberg is one of the internationally leading groups in Natural Killer cell research. NK cells constitute an essential component of the immune system and are involved in the control of viral infections and eradication of tumor cells.

We are interested in basic questions as well as clinical relevance of NK cells and were the first to describe the unusual genetic diversity of human NK cell receptors. Some of our major research topics are: mechanisms that regulate NK cell differentiation; investigation of the clinical role of NK cells in leukemia and allogeneic stem cell transplantation; analysis of NK cell-based strategies to combat virus infection.

Our group is located on the campus of the Universitätsklinikum, where we have established close collaborations with several clinical departments to translate our basic research into the clinic.
