University of Bayreuth

Dept. of Biochemistry

The Department of Biochemistry at the University of Bayreuth comprises groups working on the structural and functional characterization of proteins. In particular, the groups work on signalling mechanisms in aging and disease (Steegborn lab), structural enzymology (Blankenfeldt lab), and protein folding (Schmid lab). A variety of biochemical and biophysical methods, such as protein spectroscopy and mass spectrometry, are employed at the Department, with a prominent role for protein crystal structure analysis.
