The Laboratory of Molecular Neurogenetics is part of the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Munich.
The aim of our research is to study neurodegenerative diseases, animal development and neurobiology using the 1mm long soil nematode Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans).
We use the superb molecular, functional genomic, biochemical, and bioinformatic tools this animal model offers to focus on factors corresponding to vertebrate (human) genes and their function.
Research at our lab focuses particularly on genes involved in neurodegenerative processes, including genes associated with Alzheimer´s Disease, Parkinson´s Disease, and progressive hearing deficits.
Research in our lab is funded by:
BMBF – NGFN (Nationales Genomforschungsnetz)
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (SFB 596)
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (Schwerpunktprogramm Alzheimer)
European Community (DIADEM Research program)
European Community (RET Research program
FUTUR (Bonus program)
