Research Associate / PhD student (f/m)
 
in the field of rhizosphere research


at the Institute of Crop Science and Resource Conservation (INRES). Start of the position is the 1st January 2020, and it will be available for a period of initially three years.

Activities and responsibilities

The successful candidate will work in a project that is part of the cluster of excellence “PhenoRob – Robotic and phenotyping for sustainable crop production”. Aim of the project is to quantify chemical and biological rhizosphere processes. The analysis of nutrient and water uptake by the plant will be targeted using stable isotopic tracers. Microbial processes will be studied using molecular approaches. Gained knowledge will be integrated with sensing signals generated above-ground. The project will be realized in close collaboration with partners of the excellence cluster.

Qualification profile

  • Diploma or Master’s degree in the field of soil science, biology, agriculture or related natural sciences disciplines
  • Solid background in soil science and soil microbiology
  • Experience in molecular biology techniques, especially soil DNA/RNA extraction and (q)PCR, and/or isotope ratio mass spectrometry
  • Background in some of the following fields is very welcome: root and rhizosphere sampling, microbial community analyses by amplicon sequencing including data analysis, multivariate statistical analyses, water and nutrient analyses in soil and plants
  • Very good communication skills; English language skills
  • Highly motivated, open-minded, eager to learn and with a capacity for teamwork.
