PhD Research Associate (f/m/d) – Neurodegeneration Research

Full-time and permanent

to contribute to the discovery and development of novel therapeutic approaches for neurodegenerative diseases as an integral part of Evotec’s CNS drug discovery pipeline.

Your key responsibilities

  • Develop and supervise cellular assay systems based on iPSC neurons and neuronal cell lines
  • Establish and implement readouts for protein quantification, protein folding and protein quality control pathways
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to support preclinical drug discovery with the potential to lead projects in the early drug discovery stages
  • Plan, organize and supervise the work of technical staff
  • Train and support staff in development of technical skills

Your ideal qualifications

  • A PhD in Neurobiology or a related field with focus on neurodegenerative diseases
  • Good understanding of protein biochemistry, protein (mis)folding and protein aggregation biology
  • Experience with Immunoassays (e.g. TR-FRET, MSD, ELISA) and Immunocytochemistry (ICC)
  • Substantial experience with assays based on neuronal cell cultures, ideally iPSC-derived neurons
  • Proven excellence in biochemical assay development and a mindset to tweak and optimize assay parameters until highly reproducible and quality-controlled assay results are achieved
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to lead a small group of technical assistants
  • Good English verbal and written communication skills, German advantageous
  • Strong publication record and demonstrated experience conducting independent research
