Master’s Thesis Research Position Vascular Physiology, Pharmacology and Proteomics

The Experimental and Translational Ophthalmology Department of the University Medical Centre of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz is a renowned eye research laboratory in Germany that focuses on the pathogenesis of various ocular disorders, primarily the study of glaucoma and dry eye disease. Our department features a well-equipped animal research, histology and protein-biochemistry laboratory with conventional electrophoretic systems, as well as a state-of-the-art MS laboratory including MALDI-MS/MS and LC-ESI-MS/MS systems for protein profiling and biomarker identification. We offer a modern laboratory within our interdisciplinary working group and expertise.

We are actively seeking applications for Master’s thesis research from students who are interested in working in the field of ocular vascular research and meet the following requirements:
  • Highly dedicated with strong interest in fundamental research.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team with a high level of productivity for innovative/creative discoveries in a collaborative research environment.
  • Industrious, conscientious and keen to learn new techniques.
Dr. Manicam´s research focuses on the blood flow regulatory mechanisms in the ocular microvessels, with the major aim to unravel receptor-, ion channels- and myoendothelial gap junction-mediated cell signalling pathways in ocular vascular beds employing animal models, histopathology, microscopy, molecular biology and state-of-the-art proteomics techniques.

We are looking for highly motivated students to join our ambitious, young research team to work on several projects funded by the Internal University Research Funding (Stufe 1) from the University Medical Centre of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and a grant from the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG). We offer direct and constant supervision by the PI in the lab, as well as the prospect of working in a highly dynamic research environment.
