PhD position in Cardiovascular Biology (Duesseldorf)

 Universitätsklinikum Düsseldorf  Düsseldorf
The Vascular Biology Group at the Division of Cardiology, Pulmonology, and Vascular Medicine of the University Hospital Duesseldorf is seeking a

PhD Candidate (m/f)

to study T cell phenotypes and the role of costimulatory molecules in myocardial infarction.
Myocardial infarction and experimental models thereof are characterized by a profound tissue-degenerating and inflammatory response. Yet, the majority of studies has focused on innate immune mechanisms while molecular and cellular components of the adaptive immune system have gained less attention.
The project will identify the T cell response upon myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury in mice. We aim to determine antigen-specific responses in this experimental model and examine the role of costimulatory molecules relevant for T cell function and differentiation (e.g., CD27, CD28, CD40L, ICOS). The overarching goal of our group and division is to use experimental findings and relate these to clinical relevant questions in a translational approach by examining key
