Postdoc position (m/f/d) (TV-L E13, 100%)

The position will commence on February 1st 2020 or later and is initially limited to three years with the possibility of extension.

The Postdoc position will be based in the multidisciplinary Cluster of Excellence ImmunoSensation² which is financed by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The aims of this cluster are to investigate innate immunity beyond the boundaries of classical immunology and to understand the deep connections between the immune sensory system and human diseases.

The Institute of Human Genetics in Bonn offers an excellent multidisciplinary team-oriented research environment and opportunities for training and individual career development. The Institute is engaged in multiple collaborations with other departments at the University of Bonn, as well as with other leading national / international research groups. The primary focus of the Department of Genomics is the identification of genes implicated in complex disease via high throughput genomics technologies (SNP- and methylation-arrays, next- and third generation sequencing) all of which are available at the Institute.

Activities and responsibilities

The focus of the proposed Postdoc position will be on the analysis of neuropsychiatric disorders with an emphasis on the contribution of immunological processes to disease development. The successful candidate will apply state-of-the art molecular genetic (e.g. NGS, genotyping, methylation and expression profiling) and cellular technologies (cell culture, stimulation of specific cell types); manage and analyze the generated data (bioinformatics workflow including quality control, data mining, methylation/expression quantitative trait locus analyses, polygenic and pathway analyses); and follow-up relevant findings. In addition, the Postdoc will supervise master and doctoral students.

Qualification profile

We are seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented candidate with an interest in the integrative analysis of molecular biological and cellular findings using advanced computational methods. Preferably, the successful candidate will hold a PhD in Molecular Biology or a related subject. Proficiency in German and English, as well as skills in molecular genetic (DNA/RNA work, NGS, DNA genotyping, PCR, Hi-C) and cellular techniques (cell culture, CRISPR/Cas9) are required. Experience in the use of computer and computational tools (e.g. MS Office, MS Windows, Linux, R), and applied bioinformatics data analysis would be beneficial.
