2 Research Associates / PhD students in Natural Sciences

At the TU Dresen, Faculty of Biology, Institute of Microbiology, the Chair of Molecular Biotechnology offers two positions as
Research Associate / PhD student
(Subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

starting from 01.02.2020. The positions are limited for 36 months and entail 65% of the fulltime weekly hours. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed-Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG). They offer the chance to obtain further academic qualification (e.g. PhD).

Activities and responsibilities

Description and development of microbial enzymes as synthetic tools, particularly isolation, purification, characterization, molecular modelling, design and immobilsation of proteins; isolation, genetic manipulation, cultivation and downstream processing of microbes (focus bacteria); enzymatic catalysis in aqueous and non-aqueous systems; chemical synthesis; analysis of low-molecular weight chemical compounds, e.g. with UV/VIS spectroscopy, gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry and NMR; project scheduling and organization; written and verbal communication.

Qualification profile

High ranked university degree (MSc, Dipl.) in Natural Sciences or comparable courses; distinct research interest and strong self-motivation; basic theoretical and practical expertise in microbial biotechnology, biochemistry, organic synthesis and chemical analysis; deeper expertise in methods of molecular biotechnology; fluent English in spoken and written; ability to work creative and independently; above-average commitment and ability for team work; organizational skills and disposition for taking responsibility; commitment to the rules of good scientific practice.
