Bachelor-/ Master-/ Medical Doctoral Thesis in Proteomics

Bachelor-/ Master-/ Medical Doctoral Thesis in Proteomics
Our research team at the Experimental Ophthalmology at the Department of Ophthalmology is working extensively on basic and clinical research, exploring various ocular pathologies, namely glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration and dry eye syndrome. The major aim of our research is to develop potential diagnostic and prognostic options for improved clinical management of ophthalmopathologies. We utilize cutting-edge proteomics and microarray techniques for protein analysis and biomarker discovery in the ocular fluids and tissues.
At present, we are expanding our research team and are seeking for highly motivated individuals who wish to pursue their Bachelor, Master or Medical doctoral thesis in mass spectrometry-based proteomics research. This research will unravel the fundamental mechanisms underlying particular ocular diseases in human and the projects offered include the following topics:
  • Characterization of novel native protein complexes in tear fluid.
  • Characterization of protein isoforms and post-translational modifications.
  • Identification and verification of potential biomarkers in specific ocular diseases employing the discovery and targeted proteomics strategies.
Applicant requirements:
  • Students in the field of Life Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Biotechnology or similar) or medicine with strong interest in fundamental research.
  • Excellent English language skills are a must as the thesis is to be written in English.
Successful applicants will be invited for an interview and in-house training will be provided.
