Structures of Viral Proteins Essential for Replication and Transcription.

The Heinrich Pette Institute - Leibniz Institute for Experimental Virology (HPI), is committed to research on the biology of different human viruses as well as the pathogenesis of viral diseases (http://www.hpi-hamburg.de). The HPI offers the opportunity to perform cutting-edge research in a world-class research environment with excellent facilities.

Activities and responsibilities

We are seeking a highly-motivated student to investigate the structures of viral proteins essential for replication and transcription. The project is a joint endeavor between the HPI research department ‘Structural Cell Biology of Viruses’ (Prof. Kay Grünewald), the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (BNITM; group of Prof. Stephan Günther) and the group of Stephen Cusack (EMBL Grenoble). The Grünewald group’s lab is located in the newly established Centre for Structural Systems Biology (CSSB; www.cssb-hamburg.de) at the Bahrenfeld-Campus in Hamburg. The successful candidate will employ state-of-the art structural biology tools such as electron cryo microscopy (cryoEM) to unveil high-resolution structures of functional protein complexes from medically relevant RNA viruses.

Qualification profile

Applicants should hold a master’s degree (or equivalent) in the field of molecular biology, molecular life sciences, biophysics or similar. The position is available starting February 2019 and is to be filled as soon as possible.

Benefits

Payment and social benefits will be in accordance with the regulations for the German TV-AVH (salary agreement for public service employees).

The workplace will be the Centre of Structural Systems Biology. If you have further questions regarding the project or position please do not hesitate to contact Kay Grünewald directly (Email: kay.gruenewald@leibniz-hpi.de).

The Heinrich-Pette-Institute promotes the professional equality between women and men. Handicapped applicants with otherwise similar professional qualification and competence will be preferred.
