internship for an expedition to Madre de Dios Archipielago, Chilean Patagonia

WE ARE LOOKING FOR: an INTERN FOR AN EXPEDITION to Madre de Dios Archipielago (50°S), Chilean Patagonia in March 2016

We are planning a 14 day expedition within our research project called " Mass mortalities of cold-water corals in Chilean Patagonia: causes, consequences, recovery and resilience".
The aim of the expedition is to inventory the area of the hydrocoral mortality, based on ROV work (remotely operated vehicle).

Madre de Dios is one of the most spectacular archipielagos of Chilean Patagonia

We are looking for an intern to help with operating the ROV (concretely to take care of the cable). We will travel with a rent boat from Puerto Natales to Madre de Dios (22 h trip), where we will stay at the installations of a CaCO3 mine. Here we will get lodging and food. We will bring our own boat and captain and make ROV transects/inventories during most of the time.
The team will consist of 5 people from the coral project, one grographer, two palaeontology students (looking at whale bones) and 3-4 oceanographers. During the 10 days at the island, we are working intensely to get as much done as possible since the trip is very expensive, and the area very isolated.
We will pass the time in a breathtaking region, however, have to work hard. Thus we need easy going and enthusiastic people, who bring good mood.
The intern should come to Huinay (www.huinay.cl) approx. 1 week before the trip to help with preparations.

Looking forward to applications including your CV and a letter of interest. You will get to areas of spectacular beauty where no or few scientists have been before.
